DaBoyz GT T - 12 Weeks

So it begins!  Well, it kinda already has... but my personal count down starts 12 weeks out which is today!  DaBoyz GT 2013 is coming quickly and I have a pretty good start, but I also have an 19 month old running around and sucking the energy out of me.  So, finishing everything will still be a challenge.

I'll start with the master list.  Here's what I'm planning on taking:
Farseer + spirit stone of anath'lan, shard of anaris
Spirit Seer
Baron Sathonyx
Wraithguard x5 (cannons)
Wave Serpent + scatter lasers, holofields
Dire Avengers x5
Wave Serpent + scatter lasers, holofields
Jetbikes x3 + cannon
Jetbikes x3 + cannon
Kabalite Warriors x5
Venom + extra cannon, grisly trophies
Beastmasters x4 + khymerae x14, razorwings x2
Wraithknight (cannons)
War Walkers x3 + scatter lasers x6
Vaul's Wrath Support Battery x3 (shadow weavers)

It's a fun list that fits the hard comp limits and remains very competitive.  It has a lot of synergy with guide and prescience on a variety of units.  The beast pack deathstar can have fearless, hit and run, stealth, shrouding, etc.  It's there to disrupt, tarpit, and free up the wraithknight in case he gets tarpitted.  The upgraded venom gives the seers rerolls on psychic tests.  It has shooting from str10 down including high RoF, barrages for guided sniping, and poison for those t9/10 MC's that still pop up once in a while.  It's lacking a flyer component or dedicated counter, but the ability to guide/prescience 2 units if needed and a strong ground presence haven't let me down yet.

Anyways, enough with that garbage.  You're getting plenty of Eldar content everywhere on the net and if you've read my tournament reports for the past two months, you've seen how they perform.  The picture up top shows the army as it stands now, 12 weeks out from the main event.  Still missing are 1 shadow weaver, all 6 guardian gunners, 5 dire avengers, 1 wave serpent, and 2 khymerae.  All of that still needs to be assembled and base coated.  Everything else is in various stages of completion with the Dark Eldar models from last year's GT list pretty much done.

On the painting table this week are some bases for dire avengers, gunners, and wraith guard.

Pretty simple stuff with cork, shale, and sand.  If you haven't based with cork yet, I highly recommend it.  It's really fast and easy to work with, and it looks really good with simple washes and dry brushing.

On top of finishing this army, I also aim to build a new display board.  I've also signed up to donate a set of terrain to be awarded as the "smoking boots" (last place) award at the GT.  Time permitting (haha!), I also want to build another terrain set for my personal collection to reveal at the GT.  It's a lot to accomplish, but doable if I can remain focused and productive.  Stay tuned for weekly updates as we count down to the GT, as well as batreps from the next two months which will both be 1850pt events in preparation for the main event.  Unless something changes, my co-authors Grubnards and Calypso2ts will also be playing in the 40k GT.  Crispy is planning on playing in the fantasy GT.  DaCock and Crimthaan will be on the TO staff for the GT, and Jay (DaCock) is going to partner with me for the Friday doubles tournament.  All in all, it should be a pretty exciting 3 months for the blog.

  1. And if the marine rumors hold true you won't be needing to worry about those pesky sternguard bombs coming your way with rerolls anymore :) Good luck on your projects and can't wait to see them at the GT!

    1. True, but sternguard with combi-gravs can potentially 1-shot the wraithknight wounding on 3 with ap2.

I'm also looking forward to seeing what you so with the new marine codex.

    1. There's a pic from a nova army on Dakka with a cut foam shape that looks like the shadow of an eldar flyer which I really like. However, all the models are based on urban rubble so matching that would make the most sense.

      What do you think?

    2. There were a few like this - about split between foam/mdf/wood; and one with I think foam and LEDs. Joesavestheday has a good photo dump here, the one with LEDs is the top photo: http://www.joesavestheday.com/2013/09/nova-2013-photo-dump.html I didn't get nearly as many pics as I wanted to this year - ran out of memory the first day and didn't take the time to upload/delete. =\ There was an outrageous one from Russia there too - it's about 2/3 of the way down on Joesavestheday's pic list.
