6th Ed Test Lists

Millennium Games is running a 6th ed bring-and-brawl event tomorrow to celebrate the release and let us start grinding out the new rules.  My buddy Kevin is also hosting a 6th ed bbq party in the afternoon so I put together a couple lists to play around with.

The first is a tyranid list with a couple things in mind.

1500pts (MG event is set at this level)
Tyrant + armored shell, old adversary, tl devourers
Tyrant Guard x1
Hive Guard x3
Ymgarls x6
Genestealers x7 + toxin sacs, broodlord w/ scything
Termagants x10
Tervigon + toxins, adrenals, catalyst, cluster spines
Trygon + toxin sacs
Tyrannofex + rupture cannon, cluster spines

So I wanted to try out preferred enemy shooting, maybe biomancy on the broodlord and tyrant, toxic trygons (3+ rerollable hits, 2+ rerollable wounds), and new ymgarl shenanigans (hit vehicles on 3's, 3 results auto-wreck rhinos, auto-lock transported unit?).  A lot of that is based on rumors so it may not work but here's hoping.

I'll also be taking a modified Mordrak Shock list (1500pts):
Mordrak
Ghost Knights x5 + hammer, banner, halberd, swords x2
Strikes x5 + psycannon, razorback w/ psybolts
Strikes x5 + psycannon, rhino
Interceptors x5 + psycannon, halberds x2, MC hammer
Nemesis Dreadknight + teleporter
Nemesis Dreadknight + teleporter, hvy incinerator
Rifleman Dread + psybolts

So I dropped the stormraven because I'm not ready to wrap my head around flyer rules and pivots/min displacements. Plus I don't want it to start in reserves every game.  I put a hvy incinerator on one NDK to see if it can overwatch d3 auto hits with it when assaulted.  Will interceptors get impact hits?  NDKs will as well as cause fear now and half attacks to switch to str10?  Sounds good to me.  If everything works out, I may have to start giving psybolts to the infantry so they can glance transports to death via hull points.

I may take some pics of the games but full reports are doubtful since we'll probably be making all kinds of mistakes and fumbles with the new rules.

  1. I really like what the new psyker rules (rumored) bring to Broodlords in a Tyranid army. More than any other army I really think Tyranids have awesome potential to become psychic power houses - from that list I count 3 different psykers - which gives you 5+ Deny the Witch saves in addition to your Shadows protection. Throw in some of the interesting looking book powers for shooting (maybe that Broodlord can start popping tanks?) and Tyrandis may not need a Brother in Arms.

    1. I'm mostly interested in Biomancy for the broodlords and tyrant for now:

#1. caster gets D3 str and toughness - So, str8/t8 broodlords and str9/t9 tyrants? Ok... Oh wait, broodlords can challenge sarge's now too?

#2. target unit get -1 str and toughness - Rad grenades for me too, why thank you! My poisoned, rending buddies here appreciate that!

#3. target unit get FNP - Yay mini-tervigons!

#4. assault 2 every unsaved would heals one off caster - str? ap? probably my least favorite but hels the broodlord's allocation sillyness.

#5. pysker get +d3 init - our stuff doesn't really need this, maybe a tyrant swings before all the halberds and DCA out there now.

#6. target makes toughness test or take 1 wound no save, if slain jumps to model with in 2' and make save. continue till someone saves or no targets left - love it just for the hilarious possibilities. Target model or target unit? Can I pick out warlocks and sang priests? PF sarges? Probably won't ever do much but I like the fluff possibilities of diseased nids spreading virus bombs.

  3. Scyting talon with the 6th reroll 1 to wound (confirmed) so 2 pair reroll to wound (I think), this make useless take the toxin on the trygon?

what about the new rule about reserve? "No units can charge when arriving from reserves unless otherwise stated". I hope this is different for ymgarl and genestealer.

    1. Ymgarl's Dormant rule specifically mentions being able to assault same turn so they're safe. I'm afraid genestealers are getting shafted out of outflanking assaults for now.

    2. I will consider also the carnifex with twin-linked devourer for killing Transport and light vehicle (AV 12) maybe with onslaught from the tervigon you can shoot at 2D6 + 18"

    3. Yeah that's what I have my tyrant kitted out for. 12 shots with rerolls, 9 hits, 3 damage results vs av11 = wrecked on anything with 3 hull points. We won't even talk about how sad DE are now that bolter glances (extra shots now too that they can move and fire 24") take down av10 skimmers via hull points.

Maybe my new competitive list will use dakkarants (have 1), dakkafexes (have 2 already), and devourer gaunts all backed up with PE hive guard and a tfex.

    4. Smart players know how to avoid a charge from an outflanking unit so not a big deal to me in that regard.

    5. True. More true in a GT setting. I was still getting off outflank assaults in at least 50% of my games in our local setting. With biomancy though, you'll probably want the broodlords on the table with some extra guys for ablative wounds.

"My broodlord makes your paladins t3 and then my dakkafexes shoot 24 shots that cause instant death..."

    6. Yeah i haven't read yet the psychic school but biomancy is very usefull (4/6 strong power) Maybe i incluede 2-3 little squad of genestealer with broodlord in my list

  4. I believe Scything Talons still re roll to hit. I ve heard nothing against that.

For Nids as a whole, Its getting tough to choose between flying and walking tyrants now!

    1. I'll definitely be adding the new flyrant model to my collection. I just need to get a firm grasp of the flyer rules before I attempt to use one, and the list will probably have to cater to the flying MC's synergies.

    2. I am going to run one walking Tyrant and one flying Tyrant... they will be just that good !!

  5. Where's your lovely Harpy?! I think you should try it first:)

    1. Too early for the harpy. He's on my list of units to try but I wanted to try out the other models first. Harpy, gargoyles, and shrikes will get some attention soon as I have all those models already.

Hydras will still shoot them down very easily also, and may become the most popular hvy support choice for guard now.

    2. I think the way to deal with Hyrdas is Zoies in spores.

    3. That's if you reserve your harpy and the zoeys arrive before the hydra can shoot down the harpy. Maybe dakkafexes in spores heh.

    4. Hyrda won't just be the favorite choice for Guard. With allies, it's everyone's favorite choice!

    5. True. The new leafblower will be JoTWW, psyker battle squad, platoon + grey hunters, vendetta, long fangs, and hydra/manticore.

    6. Wolves and guard seem to be coming into 6th strong... GK are losing pace with Ap. 3 force weapons. But then we all know that Tyranids will soon take their rightful place on top!

  6. Meltabombs and krak grenades can now be used against MC's in the assault phase hmmmmmm.
