Saturday is the monthly tournament at Millennium Games. I was originally supposed to work, but was able to get the day off after all. so I threw together a list quickly. Here's the format:
1850pts. No special characters or named upgrades. Max 2 dedicated transports per list. No more than 1 av14 vehicle per army. Every unit except troops is 0-1 (no spamming).
I'm not a fan of comp, but a least when it's hard comp, everyone faces the same consequences. Much better than when you can bring anything, but stand to be penalized in points by a judge or player. It still encourages gaming the system, especially by armies with strong troop selections as they are still unrestricted. However, I haven't been getting nearly enough games in so I'm going to go get some games in.
Here's what I came up with:
1850pts - no special characters, no duplicate non-troops
Prime + bs/bs, devourer, regen, ts
Tervigon (HQ) + ag, cat, claws, cluster spines, ts
Hive Guard x3
Genestealers x20
Genestealers x20 + broodlord/st, toxins
Termagants x15 + devourers
Warriors x8 + deathspitters, strangler
Tfex + cannon, cluster spines, desiccator larvae
So I'm hoping/assuming it will be book missions and deployment, so 8kp is pretty good. The units are all pretty resilient or have a ton of wounds. I have several deployment options in DoW between two different HQ's and four troops. The scoring units are resilient and I can spawn more. Since I won't be facing triple long fangs, vendettas, razorspam, my warriors should live a long life. With a cap on transports and no duplicates, I'm not expecting heavy mech lists, so I bumped up my anti-infantry shooting with up to 48 devourers shots and 21 deathspitter shots per turn. There's also a flamer template and 3 large blasts in there.
If my predictions on lists are close, I should do pretty well. Even if someone manages mech spam with two transports and non-duplicate vehicles, I have hive guard, tyrannofex, 40 rending genestealers, and 2 MC's to flip tanks. I think it will do fairly well, we'll see.
Batreps should be coming this week assuming I can take some decent pictures.
Interesting. I would probable still taken the Tervigon as troops. It will be interesting to see how it plays.
ReplyDeleteSee you there man. Should be a fun day.
ReplyDeleteSince you won't be facing multiple long fang squads, definitely an opportunity to pull out the Warriors!
ReplyDeleteHave fun and good luck!
Looking foward to batreps
Watch out for Cyclone toting Wolf Guard...
ReplyDelete5th edition codices have a clear advantage in that kind of environment. The thought that Troops are pure, noble and righteous (and probably not that killy) while elites, fast attack and heavy support are devious underminers of truth and the 40k way is just silly.
That being said, what a great comp environment for Nids, eh? Some of the codices would still a decent job of meching up even in that ruleset, but you at least don't have to worry about dual land raiders or 12 Chimeras...
Looks solid and I can't imagine how hard it will be to budge thar warrior unit, especially with a prime.
ReplyDeleteDOh, forgot to ask around... P.O.K. who are you?
ReplyDeleteAnyways... not what I expected lol. I faced IG twice. First list had 7 vehicles, second had 9 lol. Poor me was stuck with just hive guard and a tfex for ranged anti-tank.
@ Ghostin ~ Well, the warriors survived vendettas, demo charge, battle cannon, melta vets, and a manticore with ease. My prime was taking first wounds every round and making cover saves like a pro. I think I only lost 2 or 3 warriors each game against guard.
Batreps coming when I have time.
I've got the urban gray Imperial Guard. I'm the one who shared the best painted win with Kevin and his Chaos. You played my friend Chris' green guard I believe.
ReplyDeleteI did not do well this time, lost all three. I could not kill enough at all.
All of my games took most of the 2 hours, so I didn't have too much time to wander around.
Ah cool, I remember. We had a lot more people than we planned on which was awesome. Several of our regulars are still recovering from Adepticon so 18 was an impressive number thanks to the buffalo commuters.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on best painted. See if you can drum up the b-lo crew for May 14th. No comp, no painting score. We should be able to bring it up to 30 players for that one. That's more my style anyways and I should have my ATC list fully painted by then.
Yeah, the four of use from our car are definitely coming in May. Hopefully our fifth group member will be able to come as well.
ReplyDeleteGonna get to see the new Grey Knights next month, I know one of our group is looking forward to bringing his. Probably play them sometime next week.
