List of the Week: 2k One Step Closer...

So I've purchased and assembled 2 more hive guard and plans are in progress for a second Tyrannofex.  Until then, I have this list to playtest.  I realize it's not optimized, but I have models for everything so I can post batreps for it without proxies.

Tervigon (HQ) + toxins, adrenals, catalyst, cluster spines
Hive Guard x3
Hive Guard x3
Zoanthropes x3
Termagants x12
Tervigon + toxins, adrenals, catalyst, cluster spines
Genestealers x10 + toxins
Genestealers x10 + toxins
Genestealers x10
Genestealers x10
Tyrannofex + rupture cannon, cluster spines, shreddershard beetles
Carnifex + heavy venom cannon

So it's got a lot of shooting with 40 genestealers for blocking and counter assault.  I normally play the genestealers as 20's, but I split them as I'm not sure yet if NOVA will be ignoring KP's again this year.  I'm not a huge fan of MSU, but the effectiveness is hard to ignore so I'll try 4x10 genestealers for now and see how I like the difference.

The ultimate goal of the list replaces the carnifex with a second tyrannofex, dropping toxins from genestealers and a couple gants to make up the points.  That gives the list 12 str8 shots and 7 str10 shots for anti-mech.  Genestealers mop up transported units and gants available to tarpit or score.

I have a match against Tim's Dark Eldar again tonight, thoughts?

  2. well I think that the previus list you have its better.

    1. I love the concept about bubles in your previus list (old adversaries, grenades etc..)

    2. Zoanthropes should go in spore for selective AV14 wrecking

3.Maibe You should join 2 units of genes in a big unit of 20, and the others two small. Bigger units, biger pain in the ass FNP

PD. Sorry i am very bad with english.

  3. Speaking of bubbles, I was looking at old adversary last night and I think that the preferred enemy bubble is only from the Tyrant, not the unit. This would reduce the need for multiple guard to try and make the bubble bigger, because the guard don't add to the bubble.

I thought we had talked about guard making the bubble larger somewhere, but I may be wrong.

  4. No problem man, you could be right.

I've played zoans in spores in the past and I actually find I like them better on foot. It's just my playstyle I guess. They provide some good cover as a front line unit with 3++ and they can shoot from turn 1. Even with hive commander, there's days you won't get your spore until turn 4 or 4, it can scatter out of range, and those drop zoans will never survive a full turn. The thing about av14 is land raiders and battlewagons will almost always be moving towards you. If you put zoans up 12", they can often move up 6" and shoot first turn. Even if they stay back, you should be lancing stuff by turn 3 which is statistically the reliable turn for reserves and spores.

I do miss the buff bubbles, but the increased shooting is nice. It bears more playtesting still.

  5. Nah, the bubble is from the Tyrant and using the BA FAQ as precedent and reinforces by the INAT, the preferred enemy bubble is only calculated when blows are exchanged so it's hard to keep a model from the unit within 6" after assault and pile in moves.

It means you have to do a lot of stringing and almost roadblock yourself to maintain the buffs, which ends up slowing down your whole army. Also, to keep a unit within spore cloud, preferred enemy, and brood progenitor range is almost impossible after assault moves and pile in. If you do manage it, your army is primed for blasts and flamers.
