Batrep Disclaimer:  This was my first GT, and first attempt to batrep tournament games.  I screwed around with the flash so picture quality will vary.  Also, the more difficult the games became, the less I focused on taking pictures so please excuse the lack of photos later on.  Enjoy!

Game #2 versus John W. from the ETC team - Space Wolves

Ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh buddy.  This is going to be the fight of my life.  TBH, I wanted to face some internet celebs and ETC members since they all came to this GT.  I did get a casual game vs Blackmoor also but that's another story...  Anyways, I watched John and Paul M. (also ETC) practice Friday night and I found my self struggling to think of what I'd do if I paired off against John's drop wolves.  Oh yeah his list (i'll probably butcher this by memory):

Wolf Priest - jotww, ll
Wolf Priest - jotww, mh
Tons of Wolf Guard - 5 terminators, 3 clyclones, one big squad with like 8 combi plas and meltas, drop pod
4 grey hunter units with mixed gear mostly standards, wulfens, and combis, 5 drop pods, each gets one termi guard
Blood claws with drop pod
6x long fangs 3xHB 2xML + 1 WG
6x long fangs 5x ML + 1 WG

Sooo.. drop wolves with 2 jotww priests, tons of missiles (13 i think), tons of melta and combis.  I have 4 MC's with init1... yeah.  Let's see how it goes down.  Things got stressful very fast so I slacked on photos.  Sorry.  Other cool note - we were playing on one of the two tables I supplied for the GT.  Nothing like the home field advantage...

Mission is "Mission Impossible" which will also be very easy for him as he only needs to btb my objective at any point after t1 to score the primary.  John gets t1 (of course) and deploys 2 long fang units near his objective, but didn't fully wrap it so in theory, I should at least be able to score his objective with my ymgarls.
Here my dilemma starts.  I know jotww is coming out of drop pods on t1, how do I mitigate the damage.  I deploy with all my init1 mc's on the table edge and push the primes far up for sitw.  I'm low on bubble wrap so I put the trygons in the flank to try and discourage back field pods.  At this point, I'm struggling to even figure how to not get tabled.  Oh yeah, secondary is scoring units in your opponents deployment zone, so yeah...  I fail to seize.

John's turn 1... So here come the pods.

You see that one on the table edge?  That's where priest #1 landed.  You see my tervigon and two fex's are in a nice line?  Yeah...  So here it comes.  The drop pod on the left had all combi plas and combi melta wolf guard.  They kill trygon #1.  Long fangs and grey hunters target trygon #2 and put it down to 1 wound.  Jaws goes off (he scattered out of sitw but didn't mishap) hitting my 3 mc's and I roll 2, 2, 2, mauahahaha inconceivable!  He could (should) have killed 1000pts of my army on t1 and due to rolls, only took out 210pts.

My turn 1...  I spawn two large units of gants and both tervigon get doubles.  Trygon with 1 wound needs to assassinate that priest.  One prime breaks off hive guard unit and joins some spawned gants moving to assault the hunter unit.  Dakkafex's kill a bunch from the priest unit, I think it was 8.  Hive guard kill 2 long fangs I think.  Notes are getting sparse as I'm playing for survival here.  Trygon assaults the priest and remaining hunters and murders them.  Prime + gaunts assault the middle hunter unit and wiff!  They get crushed.

John's turn 2... No reserves arrive and I breathe a sigh of relief.  He drops the second trygon and that's about it.  All of his bolters fail to wound and maybe he put a couple missiles from the cyclone on a tervigon.

My turn 2... Ymgarls arrive and make for long fangs and his objective.  I continue to torrent down a couple models from each drop unit.
Ymgarls wipe a unit of fangs and takes his objective.  John can only draw now.

John's turn 3... 2 more pods arrive right in front of my objective, John breaks off the wolf priest.  He puts EVERYTHING (literally every unit except the priest) ino the gants on my objective, then runs the priest onto the objective earning the draw on primary.

No more pictures from here, things just got away from me.  Basically, we spend 2 turns murdering each other as we try to get scoring units in each other's deployment zones for the secondary and vp's for teriary.  Game ends on t5 and I have 1 scoring unit in his dz with my tervigon one turn away.  He has blood claws in my dz and a unit of 3 hunters half in.  We call a judge who says as per the GT FAQ, units straddling scoring areas are randomized.  John rolls bad and we draw secondary.  We also drew in vp differential, but I scored two tactical bonuses.

Win 24-22

Review:  What a tough game I thought I was going to get tabled and I probably should have.  Both of our play got sloppy at the end and we both made simple errors on target priority and movement.  It was after all our 3rd game of the day and I had been in the game hall for 11.5 hours.  John was a super nice guy and I was honored to play an ETC member.  He even gave me a free ETC shirt after the game.  His list was totally devious and extremely well painted.  I think I was his only loss all weekend and I apologize if he caught any flack for losing to a scrub lol.  I shouldn't have won that match.

  2. I know I'm like a year late for comments on this (lol), but I just wanted to say that I cheered on that 2, 2, 2 roll.

  3. Yeah man, the dice loved me at that moment in time. It was a bad idea to put my 3 low init MC's in a row, but I didn't think he would try to drop a pod right on the board edge and not mishap.
