The Past, Present, and Future of 40k and Me

With all the rumors and discussion of the impending new edition of 40k, I figured I would throw my thoughts out there.  First, I'm going to bore you with my own wargaming history.

Back when I was 15 (1995), my father took me to my first 'Con.  Back then, I was playing D&D with a couple friends.  My dad was a professor at RIT (a local college) and figured Rudicon, their annual gaming convention, would be right up my alley.  It was there I saw wargames for the first time.  People were playing Space Hulk, fantasy, and 40k.  It was nowhere near what the hobby is today, but the imagery of adding models to a tabletop instead of just paper and dice captured my imagination.

May Tournament: Game #3

This month's tournament at Millennium Games was a team event, but partners would be randomly paired each round.  The first game would be a true random pairing, then one random player from the winner pool and one from the loosing pool for following games.  Each player could bring 1,000pts with a smaller force org.  Special characters were banned and non troop units were 0-1 to prevent spam and encourage some different unit selections.

This Month's Hobby Projects

I apologize for posts falling behind.  Millennium Games is will be hosting a 40k lock-in event in addition to their normal monthly tournament.  One event is 1250pts and the other is 1500pts.  This combination of events has inspired me to test out a list concept I've been drafting and tweaking for nearly a year now.

I needed a change from all the organics and flesh tones that have dominated my Tyranid and Dark Eldar projects recently.  I haven't laid a paintbrush on my Grey Knights since last October either, so this month's tournaments and hobby projects would mesh nicely.

I won't get into the lists this far before the events, but I will show you a couple test models since I've slacked on battle reports.  Here's a model I've been working on to serve as Grand Master Mordrak:

Batrep: Nids & Necrons vs Orks & Guard

This game was played a week ago.  I had been working diligently on my repainted Nids and wanted to play a practice game before the team tournament.  I put up an open challenge and Andy, Dean, and Terry accepted.  Since the team event would be giving a different random partner each round, we drew teams and I ended up with Dean's Necrons across from Andy's Guard and Terry's Orks.

Tournament Day

If you've followed for long, you know the second Saturday of the month is tournament day.  Today's event was a blast with a team tournament, but with a random partner each turn.

Sneak Peek Week

Well my endeavor to repaint 1,000pts worth of Nids continues this week.  We also played a 2v2 game last night which ended up being Nids and Necrons vs Orks and Guard.  The full batrep, tournament reports, and hobby articles won't get published until next week as I'm pushing harder than ever to get the Nids finished.  1,000pts painted in 3 weeks will be my most ambitious project to date.  The good news for bug fans is our local tournament schedule is changing and it's looking like I will be taking them out two more times for a 1,500pt Throne of Skulls style event net month and possibly a 1,250pt lock in as well.  My webway based Dark Eldar just don't scale down well and there's too much anti-GK vitriol.

Anyways, here's some sneak peaks of the current projects.

Webway Wildfire

I haven't posted much about the Dark Eldar army I'm working on here because I've taken a break from painting them to do the small Nid force for this week's tournament.  I do plan to get back to work on them for next month's tournament though.
