Hobby Week

This week and next will continue to be hobby time as I repaint a small tyranid force for the upcoming team event.  I'm attempting to batch models, but I still get lost in the details.  This is a dakkafex I spent a lot of time on this week.  Here's the before:

Of Repainting Tyranids and Other Side Projects

Yup, repainting the tyranids.  At the December invitational tournament, I went 3-0 with 63/63 battle points with the nids.  However, after painting scores were added in, I didn't even place first or second overall.  That was the nail in the coffin for my poor nids.  That, and I can't bear painting any more metallic green.

May's monthly tournament at Millennium Games will be a 1000pt team event, but with a different random teammate each round.  There's a ban on special characters and no duplicate elites, fasts, or heavies allowed.  What a great opportunity to have some fun with the bugs, test out a new paint scheme, and some long forgotten units.

So, knowing what I know now and didn't know back when I painted them the first time, I came up with a paint scheme that uses the airbrush and lots of washes to make it go quickly.

Feast of Blades Qualifier: Game #3 Grey Knights vs Space Wolves

Millennium Games hosted a qualifier for the Feast of Blades national invitational this month.  The format would be 2000pt armies with each game having a primary goal (11pts max), secondary (7pts max), and up to 10 bonus points from 5 tactical bonuses and finishing at least 5 turns (28pts possible per game).  15% after that would be painting and 9% sportsmanship.  Each round was only allowed 2 hours.

I decided to take my Grey Knights for a few reasons.  I haven't played them at all since last November when I started my Dark Eldar.  It's a non-comp event so I'm sure every army will have special characters and other things my Nids and DE will struggle against.  The GK are fully (except 1 dread) painted and also have the best chance of playing at least 5 turns in 2 hours.

My list:
Librarian + shrouding, sanctuary, might of titan, quicksilver, warp rift
Hereticus Inquisitor + psyocculum, 1 servo skull
Henchmen (11 + inquisitor here) - 2 plasma cannons, 1 hvy bolter, 2 melta acolytes, 2 naked acolytes, 2 crusaders, 1 assassin, 1 jokaero + chimera w/searchlight
Techmarine + psyko, rad, and defensive grenades
Terminators x5 + psycannon, banner, hammer, stave, halberd
Strike Squad x10 + 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo
Strike Squad x5 + psycannon, 2 halberds, hammer + razorback w/psybolt ammo, searchlight
Stormraven + typhoon missiles, lascannons, searchlight
Nemesis Dreadknight + teleporter, hvy incinerator
Rifleman + psybolt ammo
Rifleman + psybolt ammo

Batrep: 2000pts Tyranids vs Necrons

With busy season at work ending last week, I decided to treat myself and try to squeeze in a game.  Dean accepted my invitation and brought over his Necrons for more ATC practice.  Since he's played my Dark Eldar twice now (HERE and HERE), we decided to change it up and I broke out my Tyranid ATC list from last year.  I only went 2-3-1 with it, but I still feel like it's my most competitive list, at least with the models I have assembled and painted.

Dean's list:
Overlord + scythe, scarabs, command barge

Court - 2 destruction 1 solar pulse, 1 darkness w/ veil and shroud, 1 lord w/ scythe scarabs and orb

Inspire

That word has very special meaning to me.  Eight years ago, I felt very lost and alone very far from everything I knew and loved.  Something that helped me bring focus and positive energy back into my life was in the mission statement of the company that I worked for.

"...to create a spirit that inspires..."

Slow Week

Well, I haven't accomplished much this past week.  Gaming kills one night and writing the batrep kills another.  I'm still usually on daddy duty until 2am and these two weeks are some of the busiest of the year at work.

I felt like doing some detail work so I revisited my archon.

The lighting kinda sucks, I'm still trying to figure out the best lighting and camera settings for my camera.  I added some battle damage, changed the design on the helmet, painted in all the gems, and added some effects to the agonizer.

I also knocked out another grotesque, bringing me up to 8 finished (minus the bellies and bases).  Well, that's all I was able to do last week.  Next week is even busier for me  at work so I may not even have anything to post about.  I hope I can get back to one game a week after that though and the rest of the army should come together pretty quickly.
